The lab uses molecular biology and genetics tools to understand key traits in crop species of importance to Taiwan agriculture. The main focus is on the identification of genes and linked molecular markers for disease resistance, quality and abiotic stress traits. The information on genes and molecular markers is used in breeding programs to accelerate the development of varieties with improved disease resistance, quality characteristics and stress tolerance. Molecular genetics activities include also gene expression and gene function studies, genetic engineering, and the use of molecular markers in variety and seed purity testing.
