The research focuses on the breeding of floral species and varieties with heat tolerance, early maturing, disease resistance, and other abiotic stress tolerance reflecting adaptation to local conditions. In the future, the breeding will work toward the development of new varieties which have a competitive edge in the international market. The current research topics are as follows:1. Oncidium as flowering pot plants or cut flowers, diverse Phalaenopsis as flowering pot plants, and heat tolerant Cymbidium.2. New flower types and colors of Gladiolus and Hippeastrum (amaryllis), and canna lily as a garden ornamental.3. New varieties of Anthurium, low-chill cherry blossom, and major garden flowers.
