本省茄子害蟲種類繁多，較常見的有二點小綠葉蟬Chiorita biguttula Ishida、臺灣黃毒蛾Port hesia taiwana Shiraki、大腿緣椿象Acanthocoris sordidus Thunberg、二十八星瓢蟲Henosepitachna vigintioctopunctata Fabricius及小斑紋瓢蟲Epilachna indica Mulsant、煙草粉蝨Bemisia tabaci (Gennadius)、棉蚜Aphis gossypii Glover 、南黃薊馬Thrips palmi Karny、神澤葉蟎Tetranychus kanzawai Kishida、茄螟Leucinodes orbonalis Guenee及大長尾粉介殼蟲Ferrisiana virgata (Cockerell)等。其在田間之發生消長為二點小綠葉蟬全年發生，尤以11~2月為其發生盛期；臺灣黃毒蛾在3~5月；大腿綠樁象在9~11月及5~6月；二十八星瓢蟲在6~8月；煙草粉蝨在7~9月及3~5月；棉蚜在7~9月；南黃薊馬在11~5月；神澤葉蝸在10~1月；茄螟在11~12月；大長尾粉介殼蟲在2月、5月，各為其族群高峯。其它害蟲如臺灣花薊馬Frankliniella intonsa Trybon、瓜實蠅Dacus cucur&itae Coqillett、桃蚜Myzus persicae Suizer、斜紋夜盜Spodoptera litura Fabricius、擬尺蠖Trichoplusia ni Huber、球菜夜蛾Agrotis ypsilon Rottenberg等之密度均甚低。又天敵之調查缺現多種食蚜瓢蟲及一種寄生蜂Trioxys (Binodocys) communis Gahan為棉蚜天敵，Trissolcus sp.為大腿緣樁象之卵寄生蜂；另二十八星瓢蟲幼蟲體內發現一種Pediobius sp.之寄生蜂。
The major insect pests on eggplants were investigated in southern Taiwan. The two-spotted small-green leaf hopper, Chiorita biguttula Ishida, appeared the year round with the hither population during November to February. The taiwan tussock moth, Porthesia taiwana Shiraki, appeared during March to May. The big-leg coreid bug, Acanthocoris sordidus Thunberg, appeared during September to November and May to June. The 28-potted ladybirds, Henosefrilackna vigintioctopunctata Fabricius appeared during June to August. The tobacco whitefly, Benisia tabaci (Gennadius) appeared during July to September and March to May. The cotton aphid, Aphis gossypii Glover, appeared during July to September. The southern yellow thrips, Thrips paimi Karny, appeared in the dry season during November to May. The mulberry spider mite, Tetranychus kanzawai Kishida appeared during October to January. The egg-pant borer Leucinodes arbonuiis Guenee, appeared in November to December. The big-long-tail mealybug, Ferrisiana virgata (Cockerell), appeared during February to May. All other insect pests such as Frtrnkliniella intonsa Trybon, Dacuscucurbitae Coq., Myzus persicae Sulzcr, Spodoplera lilura Fab., Trichoplusia ni Hubner, and Agrotis ypsilon Rott., etc. were negligible in number. Besides, there were several species of predators eg. the ladybirds and parasite, Trioxys (Binodoxys) communis Gahan, both observed on cotton aphids. The Trissolcus sp. found on the eggs of big-leg coreid bug and the Pediobius sp. on the larvae of 28-spotted ladybirds.
