Abstract
The rice blast disease has long been a very serious problem for rice production in Taiwan and elsewhere. Many a phytopathologists have endeavoured to attack this problem, but their works were mainly restricted to the conditions prevailing in temperate zone. Mr. Y. Hashioka, formerly phytopathologist of our Institute, has made a comprehensive study of this subject for more than 10 years in this island. Some of his preliminary reports appeared in several Japanese journals which are not easily accessible. The present volume is a summary of his researches which has contributed much to the advancement of our knowledge in this horrible disease and constitute the basic data for its control. The manuscript was ready in June 1948. But its publication has been long delayed because of the financial difficulties of our Institute.
On behalf of the Institute, I have much pleasure to acknowledge our indebtedness to the Joint Commission on Rural Reconstruction for financing the publication of this report.
稻熱病長期以來一直是臺灣及其他地區水稻生產中非常嚴重的問題。許多植物病理學家曾致力於解決這項難題，但他們的研究主要局限於溫帶地區盛行的環境條件。前本所植物病理學家橋岡良夫先生（Mr. Y. Hashioka），在臺灣對此課題進行了長達10年以上的全面性研究。他的一部分初步報告發表於幾本不易取得的日本期刊中。本冊即是其研究成果的總結，這對我們深化對此種可怕病害的認知貢獻良多，並構成了防治該病害的基礎數據。該手稿於1948年6月即已準備就緒，但由於本所財政困難，導致其出版被延宕了許久。
