Abstract
The paddy borer ranks the most serious pest of the rice crop in Taiwan. It is fairly common throughout the province, and is most destructive in the middle and southern parts. In the past years, methods such as burning egg-clusters, lantern-trapping adults, destroying rice stubbles, protecting native parasites, etc. were employed to fight against this pest. Such methods, however, usually wasted a lot of labour yet gained a little. After the world war II, many new insecticides appeared. A number of them were selected and tested by the writer since 1952, so as to find out their relative toxicity and their suitability under local conditions. Few preliminary reports had been published elsewhere and this present article is a condensed account of the results so far obtained.
