Abstract
Flate snail (Bradybaena similaris (Férussac)) is a destructive animal on sponge grourd in southern Taiwan. Being polyphagous, its host range is wide and the population is distributed mainly on holders, ground and plant in the field of sponge gourd. After hatching, there were 3 whorls on the room of young snail and 5-6 whorls on mature snail. The weight of snail was affected by environmental conditions and foods, and was heaviest in summer, followed by autumn and spring next and lightest in winter. This snail occurred all year-round in southern Taiwan. Its population increased in raining season (May. -Sep.) and decreased in dry season (Oct. -Apr.). It was obviously affected by preciptation. Two snailicides were tested for the control of this snail in field. Application of Metaldehyde 6% G. on the bottom of trunk of plant and holders gave the best control on this snail in the field and could last 21 days.
