Abstract
Of the major fertility management practices for wet rice, N fertilization is the most important. Since the type of cultivar and the climate have profound effect on crop productivity, recommendations of N rates for rice are based primarily on the variety, the region and the cropping season. The soil factors affecting the response of rice to N fertilization are textural profile, pH and drainage conditions, rather than the organic matter content or the level of mineralizable N in the soil.
