Abstract
Thes is paper deals with the occurrence of the striped flea beetle (Phyllotrea vittata Fab.) observed in 1951 and 1952, and a control test carried out in 1952 at Fengshan, Kaohsiung.
By two years observation, it has been shown that the Turnip flea beetle occurs most abundantly in Spring and Summer in South Taiwan. Were it not limited by heavy rainfall, it would cause a serious damage to the cruciferous vegetables all the year round in Taiwan.
Both DDT and BHC, including dust, wettable powder and emulsion, have control effect, but DDT is inferior to BHC. Wettable powders such, as r 6.5% BHC and 50% DDT, when used in high concentration, cause injury to the plant. They must be diluted at a rate of at least 1-500.
Application of three times is the best and economic way of controlling. First application should be held one week after germination, second application two weeks after germination. Ten days after the second application we give the last one.
Yield increased and quality improved in the treated plots.
