Abstract

1. 嘉農育242為省農業試驗所嘉義分所新育成之抗稻熱病特強之品種，其親本為嘉農育65號（新竹4號×臺中150號）×嘉農育123號（臺北7號×臺農45號）。 2. 嘉農育242號為一無芝，穗大，著粒密，植株較高，成熟稍遲，能耐重肥之優良品種。 1. New improved rice variety, Chialungyu No. 142 is a selection from a cross of Chialungyu No. 65 (Hsinchu No. 4 × Taichung No. 150) × Chialungyu No. 123 (Taipei No.7 × Tainon No. 45) made by Chiayi Branch Station, Taiwan Agricultural Research Institute. 2. Chialungyu No. 242 is a variety of good-yielding, superior in quality, and widely adaptability. It is an awniess, straw of hull color, and a little board in grain type. It has 110.6 cm in height of culm, 20 cm in length of panicle, and 4.2 grams on average weight of panicle. The number of grains per panicle of Chialungyu No. 242 is about 157, of rachis per panicle is 12.4, and of panicicles per hill is about 15 to 20. Weights of 1,000 grains of rough rice averages 29.1 grams and the percentage of brown rice hulled from rough rice is 79.6.
