Abstract
Temperature is one of the factors influencing flowering and fruiting in mango. After new shoots sprouting at the end of December, the two-year-old potted mango plants (Irwin/local variety), under controlled water supply, were divided into two groups on January 16th-one remained outside, another removed in to greenhouse. From late January, inflorescence appeared in the axil of new shoots. Up t o February 20th, the percentage of inflorescence emergence reached 90% in outdoors (temperature ranging between 11.9 and 18.8°C, with 14.5°C in average) compared to 40% in greenhouse (15.6~28.5°C, 19.3°C in average). Thirty-six days after fruit set starting on March 12, the percentage of fruit set lowered to 25% in greenhouse (temperature ranging from 20.2 to 32.9°C with average of 24.7°C) in contrast to the 56% outdoors (17.7~24.8°C, 20.6°C in average). However, the growth and development of fruits were more rapid in greehouse.
