Abstract
I. 鐘麻粟螟(Pyrausta nubilalis Hub.) Pyausta nubilalis Hübner (Lep., Pyralididae), commonly known as the European corn borer, is the chief menace to the cultivation of Ambari hemp (Hibiscus cannabinus Linne) in Taiwan. Its outbreak in 1952 at Yunlin, Chiayi and Tainan hsiens had immediately resulted the sudden fall (from 636 ha. to 16 ha.) of acreage in this area next year. This formidable pest has 5 generations each year and requires 30-35 days (generally 43-48 days) to complete immature developments. Insofar as the Ambari hemp is concerned, larvae of the first generation are the most destructive.
