Abstract
Irrigation system that can control watering based on soil moisture sensors are a powerful tool for both greenhouse irrigation and drought stress physiology research. This paper provides an overview of research at the university of Georgia. Three studies are discussed: a study describing the effects of substrate water content (θ) on growth and water use of petunia, a study looking at growth and drought stress physiology of vinca, and a study looking at control of both irrigation and fertigation using in situ soil moisture and electrical conductivity sensors. This research has practical application for greenhouse irrigation and fertilization management, while also furthering drought stress hpysiological research.
