Abstract
Various kinds of cucurbits are wildly cultivated in Taiwan. Due to the annual planting in a large area, cucurbit plants are susceptible to virus infection and cause serious damages. Even pesticides have been abused: the viral diseases cannot be effectively controlled. For disease management of crop production, application of disease-resistant varieties should be the approach to get through the limiting factor. As growing resistant varieties, viral diseases were effectively controlled and no pesticides were required. however, the gerrnplasm with true disease-resistance is rare in nature and the genes from disease resistant germplasm are not always available in practice.
