Field experiments were conducted at the experimental farm of Taiwan Agricultural Research Institute to study the effects of climatic factors during the growing periods on seed germination of soybean (Glycine max L.),Kaohsiung No.2, Kaohsiung No.3 and Kaohsiung Selected 10. Results indicated a reduced germination in seeds produced from growing seasons of higher cumulative irradiance, precipitation, or both. Kaohsiung No.2 and 3 were more sensitive to climatic variations than Kaohsiung Selected 10 in that germination percentage was also decreased by the increasing of cumulative air temperature. It showed that germination behavior of soybean seeds from different planting months can be well-fitted in Weibull function, with unique set of parameters for each growing seasons. Patterns of radicle growth,on the other hand, were properly modeled by Richards function. |
