Soil survey of Tauyuan succeeding the work of Kaohsiung and Pingtung prefecture was started in late 1950. Field work totaled 56 days. Analysis was finished in 1953 when a part of this report was written. But it was stopped by the initiation of marginal land survey between forest and croped land although the marginal land survey of Tauyuan prefecture gave some correction to this report and its soil map in 1957. In June, 1959, when most of marginal land survey work was done, there is the chance for the report to be rewritten.
History The history of Touyuan area was started from 1723. Before the estab. lishing of Tauyuan hsien (prefecture) in 1950, it was a part of Sinchu hsien.
Locatioa and extent Touyuan prefectureis located south west of Taipei, and faces Taiwan Strait. 1214 sqaare kilometers in extent.
