Among the farm fields, about one third of them are categorized as strongly acid soil (Ph value less than 5.5). As to the slope land, about two thirds of it is more acid than that of arable farm fields. The generally applied method to improve this kind of acid soil in Taiwan is to adopt powders of calcium and magnesium oxide. Traditional methods to put Ca and Mg into the soil, especially in the orchard, are powder spreading over the land surface and powder-burying in a number of furrows. |
