本研究共選用14科24種藥用植物的種子，經由發芽觀察，計有11種植物可在室溫下順利發芽。豆科與錦葵科植物之種子，經由種皮穿刺或硫酸處理後發芽，顯示硬實現象為其休眠之主要原因。白花菜種子之休眠機制主要在於種皮外層，可用硫酸、硝酸鉀及充分浸種等處理而促進發芽；另外光照亦能抑制白花菜之發芽。枸杞屬於室溫中容易發芽之藥用植物，其最適最低及最高發芽溫度應為28、16及32℃。柴胡之發芽速度頗不整齊，可能與胚發育程度不同及內生荷爾蒙平衡有關，經用低溫層育可稍加改進其發芽勢，其中尤以四星期之層育效果較佳，但仍須進一步研究。另外9 種發芽率低落者，經用1% TTC（2, 3, 5-triphenyl tetrazolium chloride）溶液檢定，發現其活力大多不盡理想，顯示種子自採收後之調製、貯藏應加以重視，藉以確保種子活力。
This study was conducted with seed observation and germination of 24 species medicinal plants from 14 families. The results indicated that the seeds of 11 species such as Lycium halimifolium M. could easily germinate at room temperature. its optimum, highest and lowest temperature for germination were 28°C, 32°C and 16°C, respectively. Hard-seed was a major fator that prohibited seed of Leguminosae and Malvaceae like Uraria macrostachys W. from germination. The dormancy of Cleome gynandra L. might result from outer coverings and light inhibition. Many methods such as treatments of soaking in water (7 days) or H2SO4(97-95%, 0.5-1.5 minutes)and KNO3 (0.2-1.0%) could minimize seed dormancy and enhance germination in dark condition. The seed germination of Bupleurum falcatum L. was not uniformly, and could last for 50 days at room temperature. Stratification at 0-4°C for four weeks could significantly enhance its germination rate and shorten its germination time. According to the results of TTC test, there were nine poor germination species, which showed litter or no vigor of seeds. This result indicated that the storage technique of seeds should be emphasized to main tain high vigor.
