本試驗於民國58年第1期作以臺中在來1號 × CP 231、臺南5號 × CI 9504、與嘉南242號 × 朝日等3種不同組合之F2為材料。在嘉義農業試驗分所溫室內進行世代促進栽培並觀察生育日數、株高、穗長及每穗數之變異性。
Ｈeritability values and correlation coefficients were calculated for heading date, plant height, panicle longth, and number of grains per panicle in the F2 populations of rice crosses Taichung native 1 × CP 231, Tainan 5 × CI 9504, and Chianung 242 × IR 9-60. Rice plants were grown by “Generation Acceleration Method” in the first crop of 1969 at the Chiayi Agricultural Experiment Station.
The cultural method of generation acceleration caused a drastic derease in number of grains per panicle, plant height, and panicle length, but heading date was apparently not affected by this cultural method.
Eatimate of heritability for heading date was higher than those of plant hieight, pancle length, and number of grains per panicle, suggesting that an effective selection of heading date is highly likely in the F2 poulation treated with generation acceleration mothod.
Heading date was negetively correlated with plant height, panicle length and number of grains per panicle in F2 populations. Plant height was positively correlated with panicle length and number of grains per panicle. The correlation coefficient between panicle length and number of grains per panicle was also highly significant. The character associations indicated that selection of early maturing plants in the F2 populations is likely to increase plant height, panicle length and number of grains per panicle.
