The present studies were conducted to evaluate the value of doubled-haploid plants in rice breeding. Four of 100 completely homozygous lines developed through anther culture were randomly selected for field trial. The results of statistical analysis showed that the micromutation of quantitative characters had been induced during the process of doubled haploid development following anther culture. The performance of four major yield components controlled by minor genes as well as mutated genes, differed from crop seasons due to different climatic conditions. The advantages of using hybrid anther for tissue culture to increase the genetic variability of doubled-haploid plants so that to increase the chance of selection had been stressed.
