The CBB was first reported in Taiwan in 2007. Both CBB adults and larvae feed on the endosperm (coffee bean) inside the coffee berries, and cause a significant reduction in production and quality of coffee. The integrated pest management (IPM) program has been implemented against CBB successfully in Hawaii and in some coffee producing countries of Latin American. The key components of the IPM for CBB are pest monitoring, determination of action thresholds, and several control tactics (e.g. cultural control, biocontrol, and chemical control). In order to increase the control effectiveness of CBB and to maintain quality of coffee in Taiwan, this paper presents a review of the literature about the major components of IPM for CBB, and serves as a reference for Taiwan coffee farmers and researchers. |
