Abstract
Nitrogen (N) is one of the major factors affecting crop production and ground water quality. Most of the soil N available for plant uptake is in the form of nitrate (NO3-) due to nitrification although ammonium (NH4+) is the most prevalent form of N fertilizer applied. As the concern over NO3- pollution increases, NH4+-N will undoubtedly become more important for crop production especially when high efficient nitrification inhibitors are being developed as N management tools.
