The proper acidity of culture solution is one of the important factors controlling the success of soilless culture of vegetables. The purpose of this trial was in an attempt to find out the proper pH value for the water culture of sweet pepper.
It was found that the growth of sweet pepper under proper pH solution was vigorous and without defoliation throughout the experiment. The optimal pH for the normal growth was in the range of pH 6.5-7.95.
It was also found that sweet pepper under improper pH solution was weak, and dwarf in appearance wrinkly, slender and thin in leaf blade, and yellowish in leaf color. However, leaves of sweet pepper under improper pH solution were gradually defoliated but without fading away. The pH value which causes the ill-effect on sweet pepper was in the following order; pH3＞pH4＞PH10.
