臺灣豌豆萎凋病菌之野生型菌落為胞叢型，單胞培養子代會變異成數種菌落形態。粘膜菌絲型為不穩定的中間型，會產生胞叢型或繼續變異為粘膜型。粘膜型為穩定的變異型。變異頻率與培養日數成正比。胞叢型對豌豆（臺中十一號）表現最強的致病力(virulence)，粘膜菌絲型次之，而以粘膜型最低。又胞叢型菌株，不論在高壓殺菌土或自然土（土壤含水量為8-10%）均能存活良好，但粘膜型菌株則無法存活。另外，芹菜黃葉病菌及甘藷蔓割病菌之粘膜型與胞叢型菌株在高壓殺菌土或自然土中之存活無差異，或是粘膜型菌株之存活更好，在18個月內，其族群數目仍維持在10 3 propagules/g of soil。西瓜蔓割病菌之變異與豌豆萎凋病菌相似，但存活不同。
The colony of wild type of Fusarium oxysorurn f. sp. Pisi race 2 in Taiwan was sporodochial type. Various colonial types occurred in its single-spored subcultures. Ropy mycelial type was the unstable, intermediate phase, which could produce sporodochial type or continue to mutate to the pionnotal type. The pionnotal type was the stable, final stage of the variation. Frequency of variation increased in proportion to culture age on PDA. The wild type was highly pathogenic to garden peas (Taichung No. 11), while the variants were less pathogenic. The wild type isolate was also a strong survivor in both autoclaved and natural soils (8-10% of water content), but the pionnotal type isolate survived poor in soil. Besides, both pionnotal and sporodochial types of F. oxysporurn f. sp. apii, and F. oxysporuni f. sp. batatas, survived well, or the pionnotal type was survived better than the sporodochial type in both autoclaved and natural soils. The propagule densities of each fungus were still above 10 3 propagules/g of soil within 18 months. The variation of F. oxysporurn f. sp. niveurn is similar to that of F. oxysproum f. sp. pisi, but the survival ability in soil is different.
