Most bioassays used for determining the susceptibility ofRhizoglyphus mites face the problem of mite escapes, which leads to variation within replicates of treatments. An improved method uses surface tension of water to deter the bulb mites from escaping, and simplifies the food supply during the test with a piece of filter paper only. This method is described in detail and the susceptibility ofR. robini andR. setosus to several compounds measured by this method is demonstrated.en_US
