In view of these general findings some evidence of these three groups being found in the past is clarified. It may be summarized as follow: 1. It is hard to explain the genesis of the reddish brown latosols from the recent climatic data of the lowland in Taiwan. As podzolization is taking good in process in the rolling hill zone, the reddish brown latosols have been podzolized gradually. Laterization and Podzolization are both being found on yellowish brown latosols and red-yellow podzolic soils, and the former have modified with some limonizations, but some of them are affected by its parent material, so that it may be called as young soils. 2. The genesis of reddich brown latosols is not the result of recent climate, but its parent material was derived from the weathering residual products of the Plistocene and Miocene age. The reddish brown latosols being found in Taiwan were mostly developed on the pleistocene terrace table land. It confirms the theory of the pedologists abroad. 3. According to the 7th approximation of soil classification U.S.D.A. 1960, as rhodochrults which have been called reddish brown latosols, they are drived from primary basic igneous rocks, but many of reddish brown latosols of Taiwan are developed from sedimentary rocks and metamorphic rocks also. 4. The morpholigy and physico-chemical characteristics of the three soils which are interpreted by the pedologists are summarized as table 1 and 2. 5. The properties of the 3 soils which developed in Taiwan have been clarified and the range of color of the 3 soils has recommend as table 3. 6. Table 4 is recommendation of identified as major physico-chemical characteristics based on the analytical data and the clarified properties. 7. The clarified results of the series of three soils are as follow: 18 soil series of reddish brown latosols have been identified and listed as table 5, 20 soil series of yellowish brown latosols are listed as table 6 and 8 soil series of red-yellow podzolic soil, 2 soil series of brown soils are listed as table 7. 8. The reddish brown latosols should be classified separately with yellowish brown latosols although their chemical properties are mostly alike but the physical properties, especially the soil color, is apparently different. 9. It is very easy to idenitfy the red-yellow podzolic soil from the latosols because it has clear horizons of the profile and it can still divied into red podzolic or yellow podzolic soils according to its color of the sub-soil. It could be called as red-yellow podzolic soils if it is hard to discriminate. 10. Many soils show brown in color except the three soils in the rolling hill zone of Taiwan, so it is recommended to increase a brown soil group in the list of the classification. |
