Electron micrographs revealed the presence of numerous pleomorphic mycoplasmalike bodies in vein sieve elements of diseased sesame plants showing symptoms of typical witches’ broom, but not in healthy plants. This fact may suggest a possible role of these bodies associated in etiology of the present disease. More bodies were present in sieve tubes of old diseased leaves in comparison with those in younger one. Spherical, ovoid and filamentous bodies were present in sieve cells of crosssections. The body size was mostly 350 nm, ranging 50 to 700 nm in diameter, the dimension of filamentous bodies was measured to be 50~100x500~2,000 nm. A trilaminar unit membrane bounded the bodies.
