Abstract:
Based on the results of this investigation, the aging of plants, the direction of planting row, and the density of plant population did not show any significant influences on the occurrence of missing plants in asparagus fields. However, varietal difference showed profound effects on the occurrence of missing plants, i.e. cv. Mary Washington easily caused more missing plants than cv. US309 did, the imported seeds had more missing plants than the local F1 progeny seeds had. Among the factors investigated, the successive cropping of asparagus in the same field was the most important and averaged 29% of missing plants. And also, the fields with more than 40% of missing plants were attributed to the successive cropping.
