Abstract
不可忽視之印度雞脚棉，在臺灣省試植之結果如下：
1.印度雞脚棉籽棉產量，對於本省西南部之雨量（七月下旬至九月上旬），有明確之負相關（-0.63）。而印度雞脚棉籽棉產量對於本省近年颱風頻率，並無顯著相關現象存在。r =-0.54+0.21
2.印度雞脚棉在本省西南部之產量，可超出陸地棉Delfos關東119品種之產量達15 %；較之印度雞脚棉在印度之試驗成績平均產量幾達一倍。其原因尚未全明。
3.印度雞脚棉之栽培，在本省成功之可能性不下於陸地棉品種。
4.印度雞脚棉品質雖不如陸地棉，但印度草棉品質可與陸地棉相埒。草棉生產地大部集中於印度之孟買省。
5.印度孟買省北部之緯度，與本省西南部相同。自1933年開始引進印度雞脚棉以來，由孟買一帶引來之品種多可適應本省西南部之環境條件。此後，印度棉品種之引種成功希望不小。
1. The seed cotton yield of arboreum cotton in the southwestern part of Taiwan is negatively correlated with the rainfall in the period from late July to early September. r = -0.63. It is statistically significant. But the seed cotton yield of arboreum cotton is insignificantly correlated with the frequency of typhoon.
r = -0.54 ±0.21.
2. The seed cotton yield of arboreum cotton in the southwestern part of Taiwan is 15% higher than that of upland cotton Delfos Kwantung 119. It exceed the average trial yield of arboreum varieties in India, 842 kg/ha, at the ratio of about 2:1. The reason why arboreum varieties give such a merit in Taiwan is unknown.
3. The possibility of success in cultivation of arboreum varieties in Taiwan is not less than that of upland cotton.
4. The quality of arboreum cotton can not be in competition with that of upland cotton. Neverthless, the quality of herbaceum cotton is almost equal to that of upland cotton, and the former is produced mainly in Bombay state of India.
5. The latitude of northern part of Bombay state is similar to that of the south-western part of Taiwan, around cancer. Most of the introduced varieties of arboreum cotton have adapted themselves to the environmental conditions in the southwestern part of Taiwan since 1933. The possibility of success in future introductions of arboreum cotton from India is thought to be high.
