1. 數次試驗結果均示IR 8號對氮肥之劾應以及收量均高於嘉南8號。其主要原因可歸於二者株型（Plant type）受光效率之差異，可由多肥下植物體內糖、澱粉含量之差異以及葉面積指數和收量間之關係窺知。
2. IR 8號之收量雖然無論第一、二期作均優於嘉南8號，但從第一、二期作葉而積指數－谷收量關係之差異可以了解 IR 8 號尤適合於第二期作之栽培。
1. All of the four experiments revealed that the yield of IR 8 was higher than that of Chianan 8. The better plant type of IR 8 was attributed to its higher productivity, basing on the relationship between LAI and yield and on the content of carbohydrate (sugar plus starch) in the plants under high rate of nitrogen application.
2. Although IR 8 showes higher yielding ability than Chianan 8 in both the first and second crops, it seems the IR 8 is particularly adaptable to the second crop owing to its higher tillering ability as well as longer vegetative period ( about twelve days ) which enable it to have a higher LAI than Chianan 8, as low LAI is generally attributed to be one of the main cause for the low yield in the second crop season.
