本試驗從民國68 年二期作至70 年一期作，在彰化粘板岩沖積土檢定20 處水田土壤物理性，結果如下：一、68年二期作，晒田前滲漏速率之倒數和稻穀產量有極顯著負相關（r=-0.69 * *），但其他期作均不顯著，此表示在68 年二期作高溫多雨氣候下，滲漏速率太低將是水稻生產的限制因子。二、晒田後表土總體密度亦和稻穀產量有顯著負相關（r＝-0.44*），故晒田後表土總體密度的檢定可作為限制根系發展的指標。
Twenty field trials were conducted on slate alluvial soils in Chang-hua area from the 2nd crop of 1979 to the 1st crop of 1981. Soil physical properties were measured during the growth period of rice plant, and yield was obtained after the harvest. The results may be summarized as follows.
During the 2nd crop of 1979, the correlation coefficient between the reciprocal of percolation rate and the rice yield was negatively significat (r= -0. 69**). However, it was not significant in the first crop, probably because of the higher temperature and heavier rainfall during the 2nd crop season. The drainage condition was worse in the 2nd crop than in the first crop, and percolation rate became a limiting factor for the growth of rice plant in the former.
The negative correlation between the bulk density of surface soil and the rice yield was also significant (r= -0.44*). It was also pointed out that the bulk density of sur-face soil measured after the first intermittent drying can be used as a indicator to show whether the root development of rice plant is affected.
