利用Mitchell 等在1983 年所鑑定之甜菜夜蛾〔Beet armyworm , Spodoptera exigua (Hübner)〕 合成性費洛蒙的兩種主要成份，（Z , E）-9, 12 -TDDA 及（Z）-9 -TDOL ，所配製之性費洛蒙在本省田間也可誘得甜菜夜蛾雄性成蟲。雖然以5 : 1 之配方也有相當的誘蟲力，但誘蟲效果仍以Mitchell 等認定之10 : 1 配方最好。在不同作物田中，花生、蕃茄和蘆筍田所誘得蟲數均高於大豆田。74 年5 月間以此合成性費洛蒙放置於73 年曾遭甜菜夜蛾嚴重為害的宜蘭青蔥專業區進行誘集，所誘得蟲數已經超過中部地區花生田之誘蟲數；同時期在高雄縣岡山鎮的花生田所誘蟲數更高。配製甜菜夜蛾合成性費洛蒙時，添加抗氧化劑及油性介質均不影響誘蟲效果，且所配製出之性費洛蒙在田間可持效一個月以上。利用濕式陷阱與黏膠式乾性陷阱具相同誘蟲力，惟濕式陷阱的盆蓋與水盆間之空隙不得超過1 公分，否則誘蟲效果顯著地降低。將甜菜夜蛾及斜紋夜盜蛾之合成性費洛蒙同置一陷阱時，對兩種蛾類的誘集力均不理想，兩種害蟲之合成性費洛蒙間有嚴重的相互干擾作用。
By mixing (Z, E)-9, 12-TDDA and (Z)-9-TDOL, two major sex pheromone components of beet armyworm (BAW, Spodoptera exigua (Hübner)), at the ratio determined by Mitchell et al. (1983), we were able to catch the male BAW adults in Taiwan. The synthetic BAW sex pheromone is able to catch BAW in the fields of soybean, peanut, tomato and asparagus, and significant number of BAW was also caught in the welsh onion field in I-lan county, where has been infested by BAW since 1980. The synthetic BAW sex pheromone was formulated in antioxidant and oil carrier and dispensed in micro-nylon tube for field application. The addition of antioxidant and oil carrier did not reduce the efficacy of synthetic BAW sex pheromone. The formulation and dispense system we used was able to maintain the effectiveness of BAW sex pheromone for more than one month. The water trap baited with the pheromone caught as many BAW as the sticker trap except the width of entrance should not exceed 1 cm in order to maintain the high catch efficacy. The BAW sex pheromone interfered seriously with the sex pheromone of tobacco cutworm (TCW), Spodoptera litura. No TCW and only few BAW could be caught when sex pheromones of both species were placed in the same trap. Once, one of these two pheromones was taken out from the trap, as the interference factor was gone, the remained pheromone started to catch the insects it was originally designed for.
