The mainly goal of the peanut improvement project is to obtain new peanut varieties with disease-resistance, high yield level, a large pod and seed size, and the best quality. The testing results in 2008 as fallows:
Per new variety Tainung no. 8 and Tainung no. 9 was planted 0.1 hectare for propagating seed.
Hybridization was crossed with large seed, purple seed coat, pod rot resistance haracteristics of the parents. The bulk method was applied for propagating the hybrid progenies in F1 - F5 generations. In the preliminary yield trial (PYT), 58 new promising strains from PYT in the spring crop season were out-yielded to the check, Tainan No. 14 in pod yield. In the intermediate yield trial (IYT), one new strains 2000F-PL-05 was out-yielded in pod yield and in pod rot resistance of the check, Tainan No. 14. The almost new strains possessed a large pod and kernel size. In the advanced yield trial (AYT), one new line (98S-EH-33)with a large pod and seed size selected, out-yielded the check, Tainan No. 14 in pod yield and kernel yield. Among the above 10 lines were large pod size. In the regional yield trial (RYT), two elite lines were out-yielded the check, Tainan No. 14 in pod yield and seed yield, respectively.
