Abstract:
True potato seeds from various open-, self- and cross-pollinated progenies were evaluated by transplanting one-month old seedlings to two different field conditions at TARI, Taichung.
Crops were harvested in 3 months and the following data was recorded on plant basis for each progeny : total tuber weight, weight and number of tubers equal to and above 30g., survival rate (% of transplants survived till harvest time), tuber skin color, shape and depth of eye. The segregation for the latter three traits was not significant in general. The highest yield obtained was 0.43 kg/pl. in comparison to 1.08 kg/pl obtained from tuber clone.
The yield was markedly reduced for both tuber clone and seedling at heavy and less fertile soil.
