Recent Advances in Rice Breeding and Genetical Studies in Taiwan

Abstract

In the early days of Taiwan, the rice cultured were mostly native varieties (indicatype). Japanese varieties were later introduced to Taiwan for improvement. As a result, many japonica type rices locally known as "Ponlai" rice were developed. During the post-war years, rice breeding work has been carried out by the Taiwan Agricultural Research Institute and all District Agricultural Improvement Stations; and considerable progress has been made especially on Ponlai rice. 本文系1976年5月間在臺北召開的中美稻作生產研討會上所報告者，對臺灣過去十年來稻遺傳育種之研究作一綜合性檢討。內容包括育種目標、育種程序、抗病育種(稻熱病、紋枯病、白葉枯病、黃萎病)、抗蟲育種、細胞質不稔系統及雜交水稻之育種、突變育種、抗鹽性育種、稻遺傳因子之分析及最近所育成之新稻品種等。
