Abstract
In spring of 1992, a seedling blight or stump rot was observed on oriental lily. Lilium oriental hybrid "Star Gazer, grown in central Taiwan. Reddish brown irregular lesions frequently developed on the emerging crowns in contact with the soil surface. The stem under soil line was often attacked and tan to reddish brown discoloration or sunken lesions appeared. Rhizoctonia solani anastomosis group (AG) 1, 3, 4, and other Rhizoctonia-like fungi were isolated from these diseased plants. Inoculation of intact oriental lily plants with artificially infested soil by the isolates of R. solani produced lesions similar to those observed in the field. Similar isolates of R solani were recovered from inoculated plants. This is the first report of association of R. solani with seedling blight or stump rot of lily in Taiwan.
