Among many forms of precipitation, acid rain and acidic fog are of common awareness. The major sources of these acidic particles are attributed to the burning of fossil oil rather than the natural occurrences. In recent years, acidic precipitation becomes a serious problem to ecosystem and environment in many regions of the world, especially in the industrialized areas including Taiwan. During the growth period of a crop, injuries may occur to leaf, stem, flower and fruit when exposed periodically to acid precipitation. Plants are vulnerable to acid deposition depending on species, variety, growth status, characters of leaf surface, and the nature and treatment of acidic solutions. Quite a few efforts have been made still much experiment needs to be conducted to assess the appropriate strategy for controlling damages caused by acid precipitation. |
