With increasing purple stain caused by C. kikuchii on seed coats, seed germination on potato-dextrose agar, moist cellulose pads or sand was reduced. Stunted and low vigor seedlings resulted from seeds with 50% or more seed surface stained. There was no antagonism between C. kikuchii and P. sp. in dual culture on PDA. Culture filtrates of C. kikuchii stimulated the growth of P. sp., a linear relationship being recorded between filtrate conc. and growth of P. sp. on water agar.
