在28℃、13:11（L: D）光周期的定溫箱中測試印度食薊馬（Scolothrips indicus Priesner）雌成蟲在每日供應10、20、40、80 及160 粒神澤氏葉蟎（Tetranychus kanzawai Kishida）卵時的取食及產卵反應。每日供應10 或20 粒葉蟎卵時，大多數薊馬逃離受測浮葉；供食量提高至每日40 粒或更多葉蟎卵後，70%以上的雌薊馬棲息於浮葉上取食產卵。供食量增至每日40 或80 粒葉蟎卵時，平均日食量均顯著上升（P<0.05）。不論食物多寡，取食情形均甚穩定。供食量提升至80 粒葉蟎卵時，平均日產卵量顯著增加，不同個體間的產卵最穩定，每產一卵所需捕食的葉蟎卵數低而穩定。每日80 粒卵被推斷為最適合於印度食蟎薊馬的食物量。各處理組的薊馬均未將葉蟎卵食盡，生物防治應用時宜注意此點。
Feeding and ovipositing responses of audlt female Scolothrips indicus Priesner to the daily suppy of 10, 20, 40, 80, and 160 eggs of Tetranychus kanzawai Kishida were tested in an incubator of 28℃ and a photoperiod of 13L: 11D. Most thrips
escaped from the testing leaf arena when only 10 or 20 spider mite eggs were supplied daily. After the daily food suppy increased to 40 or more spider mite eggs,70 percent of tesing thrips retained to feed and oviposit. The mean daily feeding amount increased significantly (P<0.05) while the daily food supply increased from 20 to 40 and from 40 to 80 spider mite eggs. Predation of this thrips was stable at any food providing scheme. When 80 spider mite eggs were supplied daily, the daily fecundity increased significantly and was most stable, the amount of spider mite eggs consumed for producing one thrips egg was also low and stable. Eighty spider mite eggs per day was considered the optimal food amount for S. indicus. The spider mite eggs provided in any food supplying scheme had never been all consumed. This should be awared of while applying S. indicus in biological control works.
