Four compounds (nimbin, salannin, 6-desacetylnimbin and toosendanin) and two limonoid mixtures (Limonoids I: desacetylnimbin, nimbin and epoxyazadiradione; Limonoids II: nimbin, salannin and desacetylsalannin) isolated from neem were tested for their deterring effects on oviposition of the apple maggot. The results showed that nimbin, salannin, 6-desacetylnimbin, and toosendanin significantly reduced the number of eggs laid by the flies and ovipositional punctures made on the apples treated at the concentration of 5300 ppm. The number of eggs and
ovipositional punctures were also reduced by the treatments of Neem limonoids I and II at the concentration of 40000 ppm when compared with the control, however. no significant difference was found between these two neem compound mixtures. The apple maggot laid more eggs and made more ovipositional punctures on treated apples as the concentrations of neem limonoids I decreased.
