1) Partially-fermented tea hybridization:Hand pollinating 810 flowers of ♀51-14×♂TTES(Taiwan Tea Experiment Station) No.8 pollen, we got 486 fruits, and the fruit rate is 60%. Hybridizing 2000 flowers of ♀Chin-shin Oolong ×♂Assam, we got 248 fruits, and the fruit rate is 12.4%. 2) New individal plant seleation: Selection of individual hybridization plant in 1991-1994: Beginning to investigate leaf characters and manufacture test this spring. Selection of individual hybridization plant in 1997: Planting 214 individual palnts in 1997.
3) Comparative tests of new selection lines of tea in 1996: The second years after transplanting, tea trees grew well, but should manage young wood more carefully. The survival rates of 4 lines were over 90%, others were 1 00%.Three of 17 lines were more over 90cm in height. There are 12 lines, the crown of the tea bush were over 50cm. 4) Comparative tests of new selection lines of tea in 1999: Propagating the seedlings by cutting in 2000, and planting to transplant them in 2000, July. 5) Regional tests of new selection lines of tea in 2000: Propagating the seedlings by cutting in 2000,and planting to transplant them in 2000, July.Eight lines (cartivars) including five selected lines and three cultivars as control. Were planting in nursery bed in 2000. After one years, those seedlings were planting in Wei-shan, Yu-chih and Taitung substations for regionaltests. 6) Propose to name the new excellent lines: Two lines including code No. 54-14 and No. 51-67 were selected. Spring tea of No. %1-14 Had lower polyphenol and higher total free amino acids contents than control varieties. It also had higher leaves harvest, better aroma, die-back disease resistance and good quality of partially fermented tea. .Another lines No. 51-67, The polyphenols contents of it are less than TTES No.12 and higher than Chin-shin Dapang. It is suitable for marchine plucking.
