Twenty-three compost samples consisting of plant residues, poultry manure, swine manure, and cattle manure were collected from Taiwan local compost plants. Ratios between TOC, OXC, and LOI were not as adequate as in soils or other wastes. Thus, we proposed the linear regression equation to correlate TOC-OXC and TOC-LOI. The OXC and LOI can be converted into TOC by the equation TOC=0.980XC + 2.50 and a conversion factor 0.52, both with highly statistic significance at p < 0.001, respectively. The results could be of great help in laboratories in which the element analysis is not available or in simple routine analytical determination. |
