細菌性斑點病菌(Xanthomonas campestris pv. vesicatoria Xv 26)的懸浮液(10 7 cfu/ml)以壓力噴灑接種於農友301番茄葉後，分別以光學顯微鏡，掃描式及穿透式電子顯微鏡觀察，發現病菌可由番茄葉表上斷裂的表皮毛、傷口或氣孔侵入，並在細胞問隙繁殖蔓延，使寄主細胞彼此分離，細胞壁蓬鬆，細胞膜剝離，細胞質電子密度增加，胞器變形，細胞內容物漸減少，最後整個寄主細胞瓦解，而在病斑處殘留的空隙則充滿了細菌；接種後葉表佈滿細菌，但第二天細菌量即顯著減少，接種48~72小時起，細菌便自斷裂的表皮毛基部、傷口或氣孔內不斷向外湧出，並且一直持續到病斑出現後，最後整個病斑覆在一團由細菌混雜的菌泥之下，而鄰近細胞也散佈著為數眾多的細菌。
Tomato leaves infected with Xanthornonas campestris pv. vesicatoria Xv26 by spray inoculation were observed with light, scanning electron and transmission electron ml croscopies. Immediately after inoculation, the leaf surfaces were covered with numerous bacteria, however, the number of bacteria decreased after 24 hr. About 48 ~72 hr after inoculation, masses of bacteria were found to exude continuously from the base of broken trichomes, wounds or stomata to the leaf surface until the end of lesion development, and eventually the whole lesion was covered with masses of bacteria. The pathogen entered into host cells through broken trichomes, wounds or stomata, and then multiplied in the intercelluar spaces. Infected host cells gradually became separated and their cell wall and organelles were damaged. Plasmolysis and decrease of celluar contents also be observed as time progressive; and eventually the infected host cells were disintegrated.
