When leafy sweet potato was grown in open field，the time needed to the first harvest and growth rate were highly affected by climatic factors. According to the result of multiple regression analysis, the constraints for growth were low temperature in winter and high precipitation right after planting in summer. Growth rate increased as temperatures went up. However，torrential rains were detrimental to the growth rate when the root system was not well developed and when there were wounds after harvest. Leaves of leafy sweet potato remained intact under the torrential rains，which made it distinct from other summer leafy vegetables and was still acceptable to consumers. The content of the crude fiber in the leaf was decreased at high rainfalls and high temperature, thus improved the tenderness of the quality. However, Crude fiber content in the stem and petiole, increased as the temperature decreased. This might result aged from tissue due to slow growth at low temperatures.
